ASTM A320/A320M Grade L1 is a unique low-carbon boron alloy steel bolting material engineered for specialized low temperature applications in diameters up to 1 inch. With carbon content of 0.17-0.24% and controlled boron additions, L1 achieves high surface hardness and excellent hardenability through quenching and tempering. ASTM A320/A320M Grade L1 offers 125 ksi tensile strength with impact testing at -100°F, making it suitable for precision bolting in cryogenic instrumentation, small diameter pressure fittings, and specialized valve trim applications where through-hardening is critical.
